Ayahuasca retreat in Mexico: what to know before you book

Thinking about an ayahuasca retreat in Mexico? Why Jalisco, what a week looks like, what it costs, how screening works and how to get there from Guadalajara.

Most people picture ayahuasca deep in the Amazon. More and more people sit with it in Mexico instead, closer to home and easier to reach. Here is what to know about an ayahuasca retreat in Mexico, and about ours at Finca El Péndulo in Jalisco.

Why Mexico?

It is easy to get to. Guadalajara has direct flights from many cities in Mexico, the United States and Canada. Finca El Péndulo is about an hour from the airport by toll road. No river boats, no small planes, no days of travel before you even start.

The climate is kind. The highlands of Jalisco are warm by day and cool at night for most of the year.

Mexico has its own medicine traditions. Temazcal, cacao and the sacred mushrooms of Oaxaca live alongside the Amazonian ceremonies.

You recover in comfort. Real beds, a pool, a lake and good food make the days between ceremonies easier on the body.

What a week looks like

Our ayahuasca retreats last seven days and six nights, with up to 15 guests.

  • Three night ceremonies in the Osho Hut: two with ayahuasca and one with Satori.
  • Two Kambo sessions, plus hapé and cacao ceremonies.
  • Temazcal and fire circle.
  • Group and one-on-one integration with Humberto, who leads the ceremonies.
  • A sunrise hike to Cerro La Campana, horses, the pool and the lake.
  • All meals, cooked on site and mostly plant-based.

The first day is for arriving. Ceremonies begin on day two, and the last day is for breakfast, goodbyes and the ride back to the airport. The full schedule is on the ayahuasca retreat page.

The medicine

Our ayahuasca is a brew of the ayahuasca vine and the chacruna leaf, prepared in Pucallpa, Perú. Humberto trained in Perú through long master plant dietas and sings through the night with live musicians.

What it costs

One price covers the whole week: ceremonies, meals, activities, integration and your bed. Per person, from $1,850 USD in a shared dorm to $2,775 USD in a deluxe room. Bufo and massages are optional extras. See how much an ayahuasca retreat costs for what drives prices up and down.

Safety comes first

Ayahuasca interacts with many medications, especially antidepressants, and some conditions rule it out. Nothing is confirmed until we review your health with you on a call.
